Environment, Social and Governance ESG

A company wanted to look at ESG from a whole of business perspective and how ESG impacted the corporate strategic initiatives.

Their challenge was bringing both the business and ESG together on the same Illustration so that they could better understand the interdependencies.

Enterprise Lens simply created data driven associations between ESG and the Business.  The Business was already mapped to the strategic initiatives and so ESG inherited these new relationships simply through association.

Rationalisation of core business applications

A large mining company operating across 10 countries was burdened with 400 disparate business applications, leading to inefficiencies, high maintenance costs and lack of visibility. They embarked on a business applications rationalisation project to streamline their IT landscape and determine a future looking strategy.

Their challenge was how to visualise the complexity of this IT landscape and the associated interdependencies with many active IT projects already in play.

Enterprise Lens was used to create a single, digital page that looked at all applications at once.  Lenses and Power Lenses were then created to assess Hosting Locations, Criticality, Staffing Levels, Skills gaps and Future State etc.

Mine decommissioning

A large mining company was looking to decommission one of their major sites in remote Australia. This required decisions to be made about the decommissioning of retained services, infrastructure and applications.

Decisions had to be made about how and where to focus primary efforts on the mine decommissioning. Enterprise Lens was used to visualise all interdependencies of the mine closure from Retained Services, Locations, Infrastructure and Applications.

Once mapped, the Enterprise Lens Illustration presented this back to the Head of Mine Closures and within five minutes of looking at the Illustration, he was able to see the interdependencies and the underlying problems.  The team was then able to decide on the four critical interdependencies of water, power, fuel & oil and camp services and action was taken within 24 hours.

ERP Transformation

The Board of a large utility were considering upgrading their existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and modernising their cloud infrastructure. Given the complexity of the business model, which includes customer service, billing, and managing assets worth over $50 billion, and the employment of over 4000 people, the decision was critical.

The CIO only took 15 minutes to present the depth and significance of the current ERP system, highlighting its strategic importance. The CIO used Enterprise Lens to create a single page view of the ERP and where it touched the business. This approach led to a swift 'aha' moment for the board, changing their thinking to be much more collaborative and engaging with the ERP vendor.

Simplification of complex data

A business partner of Enterprise Lens worked with a large superannuation provider with over 50 fund managers used complex Excel workbooks with 20 active worksheets and over 200 columns of data to manage funds worth billions of dollars. This complexity made it impossible to visualise the data sets with clarity.
The Executive wanted to see a single view of their business. The problem was how to manipulate the 20 worksheets into a single page, then populate this view with the latest data.

Enterprise Lens was used to create one, easy to use Excel worksheet where data was populated for data loading as often as required. The Enterprise Lens Illustration provides a single page with a number of active lenses that delivers a 'heatmap', enabling the Executive to analyse how well funds are performing and group them by a series of unique attributes and metrics. This is set to become a template for future consulting engagements for the business partner.
